Under the Radar: Josh White, Defense, Noble & Greenough (Mass.)/Fighting Clams '16

Over the last few months, 3d Rising writers and evaluators have seen hundreds of hours worth of lacrosse spanning late summer into the winter, attending recruiting tournaments and showcases nationwide.

Along the way, we've collected a list of who we view as some of the best uncommitted players, primarily in the 2015 and 2016 classes, with a few 2017s as well.

The Under the Radar series will feature commentary from club and high school coaches on some of their best players still looking for a future college destination. We'll include highlight videos too.

The next featured player is Josh White, an intelligent and fundamentally sound defender who shines on the club scene in the summer and fall for the Top Gun Fighting Clams and attends Noble & Greenough in Massachusetts. White has competed in a long list of elite recruiting events, showing well along the way at the Baltimore Summer Kickoff, King of the Hill and the Under Armour Shootout in 2014.

White was a starter as a sophomore at Noble & Greenough. Hypercompetitive and always communicating, White emerged as a leader as an underclassman. He throws highly effective checks and shows good stick skills in transition. The top cover man for the Bulldogs, White will have the opportunity to showcase his skills against a challenging schedule in 2015.

Here's what Fightling Clams coach Mike Montenegro had to say about White, who is receiving interest from colleges in New England.

"Josh is the ultimate cerebral defenseman. Though his size and speed will not always jump off the page, it is his overall lacrosse IQ that does. Match that up with elite stick skills and footwork and you have the recipe for the lock down defender that Josh has become. Whether he is up top playing LSM or down low playing close, Josh always seems to find himself wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. His job for us is always to erase his guy from the score sheet and to be a field general for the rest of the defense. He understands what we are trying to do on defense and always puts himself in the best position to help his teammates be successful. His on-ball defense and ground ball play are so underrated because he doesnít throw flashy checks. He just goes out and grinds, and at the end of the game almost always gets the better of his matchups with relatively little fanfare. It doesnít go unnoticed with our coaching staff, nor does it to his teammates, or anyone in the Clams organization."
